Can an independent certifier handle approval?

For eligible NSW properties, a suitably registered independent certifier can assess and issue a Complying Development Certificate (CDC), as can council. This can provide a combined planning and building approval pathway without a separate development application where all standards are met. Eligibility depends on the property and proposal. We can advise accordingly upon purchase. Barriers, inspections, registration and the required completion process still apply.

Related guidance →
Do I need approval for an above-ground plunge pool?

Arrange the approval pathway before installation. A factory-made or relocatable pool is not automatically exempt because it sits above ground. Requirements depend on your state, property and proposal. In NSW, an eligible project may use a CDC through an independent certifier; other projects may need a development application and construction approval. We can advise accordingly upon purchase.

Related guidance →
What is the difference between a CDC and a development application?

A NSW CDC combines planning and construction approval for a proposal that meets the applicable complying-development standards. A development application is assessed through council where that pathway is needed; construction approval and inspections follow as applicable. Your certifier can check whether the CDC route fits your site and pool layout before you commit to works.

Related guidance →
What information should I give a certifier?

Start with your property details and a site plan showing boundaries, the dwelling, pool size and location, equipment, barriers and gate. Include proposed deck or recessed work, foundation information, drainage and known site constraints. Ask for the document list and inspection schedule early so work is not covered before an inspection is needed.

Related guidance →
Do I need a fence around an above-ground pool?

Plan a compliant child-resistant barrier and gate. Do not assume the pool wall, its height, a removable ladder or a deck makes a separate barrier unnecessary. Your certifier assesses the complete layout, including climbable objects and access from the house. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, and the finished site arrangement must comply before use.

Related guidance →
When does the safety barrier need to be installed?

Arrange the barrier sequence before excavation and filling, rather than leaving fencing until the end. The site, any water-holding excavation and the partly filled pool must be secured during construction. In NSW, portable pools capable of being filled to 300 mm or more also require a pool safety barrier. Ask your certifier how temporary and permanent barriers are to be sequenced for your project.

Related guidance →
Can a pool cover replace fencing?

Do not use a cover as a substitute for the pool barrier. A cover can serve other purposes, but the barrier and gate must satisfy the requirements for the actual pool and property. Ask the certifier about the complete arrangement before buying or fitting a cover.

Related guidance →
How close can the pool be to a boundary or the house?

Check the setback and access requirements for your approval pathway before choosing the position. For NSW Housing Code complying development, the Planning Portal lists a waterline setback of at least 1 m from a side or rear boundary and placement behind the dwelling’s building line. Other standards and land restrictions also apply, so that distance alone does not establish CDC eligibility.

Related guidance →
Do I need to register the pool?

In NSW, pool owners must register their pool on the NSW Swimming Pool Register. Registration is separate from development approval and the required inspection or completion certificates. Keep your registration and certification records together. Other states have their own processes; check the applicable register and requirements for your location.

Related guidance →
What will the certifier check at an inspection?

The required inspection depends on the stage of work. It may cover the foundation before it is concealed, the installed pool and connections, and the barrier, gate, climbable zones and signage. Keep the approval documents, installation records and access available. Check the gate closes and latches from different positions and remove furniture, tools and plants that could be climbed.

Related guidance →
Do I need a soil or geotechnical report?

Use soil information that supports the foundation specified for your site. Your certifier or foundation designer may require a geotechnical report, particularly where there is reactive clay, soft fill, slope, groundwater or retaining works. Do not assume every site needs the same report or that a standard pad suits every ground condition.

Related guidance →
Can I install on an easement or near underground services?

Show any easements and service locations on the site plan before selecting the pool position. Obtain the relevant service-owner or authority requirements where needed. Locate services before excavation and preserve access for maintenance; a clear patch of lawn does not mean the ground below it is clear.

Related guidance →
What if my property is bushfire-prone, flood-affected or environmentally constrained?

Tell the certifier about mapped hazards and restrictions early. These can affect approval eligibility, siting, drainage and associated works. Do not assume a pool counts as an approved firefighting water source or that installing it removes bushfire requirements. Any such use needs the required water-volume, access and connection arrangements assessed separately.

Related guidance →
Can the pool go on a balcony, roof or raised deck?

An elevated installation needs a structure designed for the full pool, water and occupant loads, together with safe access, drainage and barriers. Ordinary decking or a balcony is not assumed suitable. Discuss the proposed elevated location and structural support with the relevant professional before ordering works.

Related guidance →
Can I install a pool at a rental property or strata property?

Obtain the property owner’s permission and any strata or body-corporate approval before committing to a location or works. Planning, structural support, barriers and maintenance responsibilities still need to be addressed. The pool’s relocatable design does not remove those obligations.

Related guidance →
Does DIY installation change the approval requirements?

No. You can manage and carry out the permitted installation tasks yourself, but the same site approval, foundation, safety barrier, inspection and completion requirements apply. Keep the supplied instructions and arrange licensed work where required. Check any owner-builder requirements that apply to your project with the relevant authority.

Related guidance →
Should I tell my home insurer about the pool?

Yes, discuss the proposed pool and any deck or retaining work with your insurer before installation. Ask how the shell, equipment, accidental damage and liability will be covered. Warranty cover and home insurance serve different purposes; do not assume a manufacturer warranty covers storm or accidental damage.

What is a Tru Blu Pool?

A round corrugated steel plunge pool with a watertight shell, an integral rolled metal edge and no separate vinyl or PVC liner.

Related guidance →
Does it need a separate liner?

No. The watertight coated steel shell forms the pool itself, without a separate vinyl or PVC liner.

Related guidance →
Which sizes and heights can I choose?

Choose Compact (2.2 m), Classic (2.8 m) or Family (3.4 m), each in a 1.2 m or 1.5 m height. Allow space for access, barriers and equipment.

Related guidance →
How much water will it hold?

Our three diameters are 2.2 m, 2.8 m and 3.4 m, each with a 1.2 m or 1.5 m shell height. The configurator shows theoretical brim-full capacity, calculated from the round shell dimensions. Actual working volume is lower because water sits below the rim at the specified skimmer operating line. Use the working volume in your handover documents when calculating treatment doses.

Related guidance →
Can I choose an AQUAPLATE colour?

Choose a finish preference in the configurator. Screen swatches are indicative. Pool-specific material and finish availability must be confirmed in the quotation; request a physical sample.

Related guidance →
Are Tru Blu Pools Australian made and owned?

Tru Blu is an Australian-owned business, and our pool shells are manufactured in Australia. Equipment and accessories are sourced from their respective suppliers. We provide direct support through KLZ Sales and Service Pty Ltd.

Related guidance →
Is the stated pool height the water depth?

The 1.2 m and 1.5 m options describe shell height. The normal water level is below the rim at the specified skimmer operating line, so swimming depth is lower. Use the installed working depth and safe-access arrangements when deciding which option suits your household.

Related guidance →
Can I relocate the pool later?

Your pool can move with you. Disconnect and reinstall at the new site. Plan the new foundation, access, delivery handling and applicable approval before moving it. Use the supplied handling instructions, protect the shell and fittings, and arrange licensed disconnection and reconnection for electrical work.

Related guidance →
Is there a step or bench upgrade?

A step or bench is not currently offered in our range. You can select the stainless ladder upgrade in Make it yours. If accessibility is an important part of your plans, tell us before ordering so the layout and entry arrangement can be discussed.

Related guidance →
Can I dive or jump into the pool?

No. These are plunge pools for relaxed swimming and cooling off, not diving pools. Enter using the planned safe-access arrangement, supervise children and keep suction fittings and the safety barrier in good condition.

Related guidance →
Are the gallery images examples of completed customer installations?

The gallery combines real pool photographs and concept images identified as concepts. Concepts show possible settings, landscaping and finishes; they do not establish the exact delivered product or an approved site layout. Use your written quote, physical finish sample and installation documents for those details.

Related guidance →
How do I request a quote?

Select a model, height, finish and upgrades in Make it yours, then submit your details. Our team receives your enquiry and you receive an email summary. Your enquiry does not place an order.

Related guidance →
How is my pool price calculated?

Package prices including GST are Compact $7,390 / $8,090, Classic $9,090 / $9,890 and Family $10,990 / $11,890 for 1.2 m / 1.5 m heights. The package includes the shell, pump, filter, UV sanitiser, skimmer, standard fittings and starter kit. The configurator adds your selected upgrades to calculate the purchase price. Third-party delivery, foundations, installation, electrical work, fencing and approvals are separate unless your written quote includes them.

Related guidance →
Can I change my configuration?

You can change every selection before submitting and download a fresh summary. Changes after a quotation or order would need written agreement and may affect price or availability.

Related guidance →
Is GST included in the displayed prices?

Yes. The package prices, upgrade prices and configurator purchase total include GST. Third-party delivery and site work are separately quoted. Review the written quote for the complete supply price, inclusions and any separately arranged services.

Related guidance →
How much deposit do I pay?

We take a 40% supply-only deposit after your order is accepted to place the pool into production. The configurator shows the corresponding deposit on your selected package and upgrades. Submitting an enquiry does not place an order or take payment. The written order sets the balance-payment milestone.

Related guidance →
What is not included in the pool package?

Third-party delivery, unloading or crane services, foundations, installation labour, electrical work, pool fencing and approvals are separate unless your accepted written quote expressly includes them. Selected supply upgrades are added by the configurator. Keeping these items separate lets you organise DIY tasks and local trades to suit your site.

Related guidance →
Does the configurator charge my card or reserve a production slot?

No. It calculates the supply purchase price and sends an enquiry with your chosen pool, finish and upgrades. You and our team receive a configuration email. Production is scheduled after a written order is accepted and the 40% supply-only deposit is paid.

Related guidance →
Can I change or cancel after paying a deposit?

Contact us promptly with your order number and requested change. Changes can affect materials, production timing and price. Cancellation and refund arrangements are set out in your written order before you pay; do not assume an enquiry submission has created a binding order. Your statutory consumer rights remain available.

Related guidance →
What are the production and delivery terms?

Production takes 6–8 weeks after your order is accepted and the 40% supply-only deposit is paid. Delivery is quoted separately through a third-party courier or delivery service. Transit time and unloading requirements are set out in your quote.

Related guidance →
What should I plan for unloading?

Confirm the access route, shell dimensions, unloading method and who provides suitable lifting equipment. Do not assume the shell can pass through a narrow side gate or be lifted by hand.

Related guidance →
How much is delivery?

Delivery is subject to a separate quote from a third-party courier or delivery service. Cost depends on the destination, access, carrier and unloading arrangements. Send your suburb, postcode and site access photographs so the quote can address your actual location.

Related guidance →
Will the carrier put the pool on its final base?

Check the freight quote rather than assuming it includes final placement. Transport, unloading and positioning may be separate services. Tell us about the route from the vehicle to the base, and agree who provides suitable handling equipment and operators before delivery.

Related guidance →
Will I need a crane?

It depends on access and the agreed handling method. Narrow passages, fences, buildings or a long reach to the foundation can make a crane appropriate. Give the handling provider the shell dimensions and site photographs so they can plan a safe lift. Do not assume the shell can be carried by hand.

Related guidance →
What should I do if the delivery is damaged or incomplete?

Photograph the shell and cartons, record the problem with the carrier where possible and email us promptly with the order number and delivery details. Retain relevant packaging. Do not continue installation with a damaged item until the issue has been assessed.

Related guidance →
Can you quote delivery to a rural or remote property?

Send the destination, road and driveway conditions, access dimensions and nearest practical unloading area. A carrier quote will establish availability, transport cost and any limitations for that location. Remote delivery may require additional handling arrangements; it is not a fixed-price website inclusion.

Related guidance →
Can I install the kit myself?

Yes. You can install the pool kit yourself by following the supplied installation instructions, with support from our team. You can also engage an installer for some or all of the work. Required approvals, a suitable foundation, pool barriers and inspections still apply. Use licensed trades for electrical work and any plumbing work that requires a licence.

Related guidance →
What foundation does the pool need?

The pool can sit on a properly prepared compacted road-base foundation or a reinforced concrete slab, depending on ground conditions and the foundation detail for your site. The base must be firm, flat and level, support the complete pool floor and perimeter, and extend beyond the shell as specified. Retain granular edges and direct runoff away so the support cannot wash out. Concrete is not automatically required for every above-ground installation. Follow the supplied foundation detail and any inspections required by your approval.

Related guidance →
Can the pool be recessed or installed in-ground?

Deck integration and/or recessed installations are planning options. Pool support, deck structure, safe access and barriers need site-specific assessment. A recessed layout must address surrounding ground loads, retaining works, coating protection, drainage and access to fittings. Plan these items before excavation; do not bury the shell or apply another pool brand’s backfill instructions to this liner-free pool.

Related guidance →
Can I integrate a deck and ladder?

Yes, deck integration is a planning option. The deck needs independent structural support, suitable finished levels and safe access to the pool. Keep the skimmer and service connections accessible, and check the barrier layout for climbable areas created by the deck or ladder. An optional Sterns stainless ladder is available through the configurator; its fixing must follow the supplied installation detail.

Related guidance →
Does every pool need a concrete slab?

No. A properly prepared compacted road-base foundation can be suitable where the supplied foundation detail and ground conditions allow it. A reinforced slab may be specified for other conditions. Either option must provide continuous, flat and level support, with drainage and edge protection appropriate to the site.

Related guidance →
Can I place it directly on grass, loose sand or uneven pavers?

No. Clear unsuitable material and build the foundation specified for the pool and ground conditions. Grass, loose fill, soft sand, isolated bricks or uneven paving can leave parts of the base unsupported. A surface that looks level may still be poorly compacted or unstable underneath.

Related guidance →
How large and thick does the base need to be?

Use the finished base dimensions, material, depth, compaction and tolerances in the foundation detail supplied for your model and site. The pad must extend beyond the pool and fully support its perimeter as well as its floor. A universal thickness from another pool brand is not a substitute for that detail.

Related guidance →
Do I have to arrange a separate foundation inspection before delivery?

Complete the inspections required by your approval or certifier, including any inspection that must occur before the shell covers the base or reinforcement is concreted. The website does not impose a separate foundation inspection on every installation. Check the inspection schedule early to avoid covering work before it has been seen.

Related guidance →
What equipment area should I prepare?

Provide a stable, level, drained area large enough for the supplied pump, filter, UV unit and supported pipework, with access to lids, cartridges, unions and valves. Lay out the actual equipment before sizing the pad. Heating requires additional outdoor space and airflow clearance. Do not size the area solely from another brand’s equipment skid.

Related guidance →
Can I do the circulation plumbing myself?

Follow the supplied connection drawing and instructions for the kit’s assembly tasks. Use the specified pressure pipe, supported connections and jointing methods. Arrange a licensed plumber for any work that requires a licence in your location, including relevant regulated water or drainage connections. DIY permission does not extend to altering suction-safety fittings.

Related guidance →
Do I need an electrician?

Yes, for electrical work. A licensed electrician must arrange the appropriate supply, protection, equipment location and any required bonding of the metal pool and associated structures. Give them the exact equipment manuals and site layout. Do not run temporary extension leads as a substitute for the required installation.

Related guidance →
How far from the pool can the equipment be?

Choose a practical position that satisfies electrical and barrier requirements, allows servicing and keeps the plumbing route efficient. Pump performance depends on pipe size, route, height and fittings as well as distance. Use the supplied equipment layout and manuals; a 20 m allowance for a different system is not a guaranteed limit for this package.

Related guidance →
Does the cartridge filter need a backwash connection?

A cartridge filter is cleaned by removing and washing its element; it does not backwash like a sand filter. Pool draining, overflow and wash-water disposal are separate matters and must use a suitable lawful discharge arrangement. Follow the filter manual and your local drainage requirements.

Related guidance →
Can I backfill directly against the pool wall?

Do not put surrounding soil or compaction loads against the shell unless the site’s supplied installation detail expressly provides for it. A recessed installation needs the appropriate retaining arrangement, coating protection, drainage and fitting access. Plan this before excavation rather than applying a generic sand-and-cement recipe.

Related guidance →
How soon can I fill after placing the pool?

Fill when the foundation, placement, connections, electrical checks and barrier or inspection sequence are ready. A concrete base must have the specified strength first. Tru Blu has no separate liner, so a competitor’s deadline for preventing liner sag does not apply. Follow the filling sequence supplied with your pool.

Related guidance →
What equipment is included?

A circulation pump, filtration system, UV sanitiser, integrated skimmer and standard fittings are included, along with a starter kit: leaf skimmer, wall brush, telescopic pole, floating thermometer, water-test bottle and CPR safety sign. The optional Telsa 50 is a cordless vacuum upgrade.

Related guidance →
Can I add lighting or other accessories?

Select LED lighting, an internal ladder, a Kokido Telsa 50 cordless vacuum or an INSNRG Hi35 heat pump in Make it yours. The lighting upgrade includes one underwater light and its transformer/control package. Licensed electrical installation is separate.

Related guidance →
What is in the starter kit?

The included starter kit contains a leaf skimmer, wall brush, telescopic pole, thermometer, water-test bottle and CPR sign. An 11 m vacuum hose and manual vacuum head are not included. The optional rechargeable Telsa 50 vacuum upgrade includes a pole.

Related guidance →
What does the Telsa 50 vacuum upgrade include?

The upgrade includes the rechargeable Kokido Telsa 50 vacuum and a telescopic pole as standard. It is a cordless cleaning option rather than a suction cleaner connected to a long pool hose. The configurator price is $448.78 including GST. Charging, operation and maintenance follow the supplied product manual.

Related guidance →
Which heating option do you offer?

The optional heater is an Insnrg Hi35 heat pump, priced at $5,201.60 including GST for equipment supply. Installation and electrical work are separate. Discuss your location, pool size, desired temperature and seasonal use so the heating arrangement addresses your needs.

Related guidance →
What does the LED upgrade include?

The $890 including GST lighting upgrade includes one underwater LED light and its transformer/control package. Licensed electrical installation is separate. Plan the cable route and driver access before decking or recessed works conceal the services.

Related guidance →
Is a pump, filter and UV sanitiser standard?

Yes. Circulation pump, filtration, UV sanitiser, integrated skimmer and standard fittings form part of the pool package. There is no need to select a separate pump-and-filtration option. Your written quote and handover documents identify the exact equipment supplied.

Related guidance →
Will the pump disturb my neighbours?

Place equipment thoughtfully, with practical pipe routes and room for ventilation and service. Consider operating times, nearby bedrooms and local noise requirements. A suitable acoustic enclosure may help, but it must not trap heat, obstruct drainage or prevent cartridge removal. No blanket silent-operation claim is made.

Related guidance →
Can the heat pump guarantee the same temperature year-round?

Heating depends on ambient weather, wind exposure, water volume, cover use and heat loss. Discuss the temperature you want and the months you intend to use the pool. The heater’s control range is not a promise that every site will maintain that temperature in all conditions.

Related guidance →
How much clearance does the UV unit need?

The Insnrg Ui chamber is installed vertically and its manual specifies at least 300 mm clearance above the chamber for lamp service. Keep unions accessible and the electronic ballast protected as the supplied manual requires. Allow this space when planning the equipment enclosure.

Related guidance →
Do I still need chlorine with UV?

Yes. The included UV sanitiser treats water flowing through its chamber, helping reduce chlorine demand, but it does not leave a sanitiser residual in the pool. Maintain the chlorine level in your supplied water-care programme and test regularly, especially after heavy use or hot weather. Fresh-water top-ups do not replace a protective residual. Insnrg’s Ui instructions require supplementary residual sanitisation and explain that UV has little effect on algae.

Related guidance →
How should I test and maintain the water?

Use a suitable pool-water test kit or have a sample tested by a pool shop, and follow the water-care programme supplied with your pool. Check sanitiser and pH before use and more often during heavy use or hot weather. Record results and dose according to the actual working water volume and the product label. The included water-test bottle is for taking a sample; it is not a chemical reagent test kit.

Related guidance →
How do I clean and protect the steel shell?

Remove leaves with the included skimmer, then use the wall brush suitable for the coated shell. Avoid steel-bristle brushes, abrasive pads and concentrated chemicals against the surface. The optional Telsa 50 provides cordless vacuum cleaning and includes a telescopic pole. If a mark does not come off with the supplied care method, send us photographs before trying a stronger cleaner or repair.

Related guidance →
What should I do about cloudy water or a leak?

Pause use if water condition or equipment safety is uncertain. Record symptoms and test results, then consult the approved troubleshooting instructions. Do not drain, dismantle or patch the pool without advice.

Related guidance →
Can I use salt or magnesium minerals?

The standard package uses UV with the supplied residual-sanitiser programme; it does not include a salt chlorinator. Do not add salt or mineral products unless the supplied shell and equipment care instructions allow the particular product and concentration. A lined pool’s compatibility statement does not establish compatibility for this coated steel shell.

Related guidance →
Do fresh-water top-ups replace chlorine?

No. Fresh water can replace losses or help manage water balance, but it does not provide a lasting sanitiser residual. UV only treats water that passes through its chamber. Continue regular testing and the supplied residual-sanitiser programme rather than relying on UV and top-ups alone.

Related guidance →
How do I remove dirt from the pool floor?

Use a cleaning method suitable for the coated surface. The included skimmer and wall brush handle leaves and surface cleaning; the optional Telsa 50 provides cordless vacuuming for debris. Follow its operating instructions and avoid abrasive tools or dragging sharp material across the shell.

Related guidance →
What should I do after heavy use or hot weather?

Check sanitiser and water balance more often because demand can increase. Remove debris, check the skimmer basket and confirm circulation and UV operation. Adjust treatment according to measured results and the supplied programme; UV does not remove the need for a residual after heavy use.

Related guidance →
Can I leave the pool empty over winter?

Contact us before draining or leaving the shell empty. Continue the appropriate water-care and safety arrangements when the pool is not in use. Groundwater, weather, plumbing and shell-care requirements can affect an empty pool, especially in a recessed installation.

Related guidance →
What maintenance does the filter need?

Clean the cartridge according to its manual and operating condition. Switch off equipment, isolate as instructed and release pressure before opening the filter. Record the clean operating pressure where a gauge is fitted and watch for reduced circulation. Replace worn elements when required rather than trying to restore a damaged cartridge.

Related guidance →
Why is the water cloudy or the pool slippery?

Check sanitiser, pH, circulation and filter condition, and remove accumulated debris. Cloudy water or slippery surfaces can signal a water-care problem. Avoid swimming until the cause is addressed and water is suitable for use. Send test results and equipment observations to us if you need help.

Related guidance →
Does DIY installation automatically void the warranty?

No. DIY installation is an option. Follow the supplied installation and care instructions, arrange licensed work where required and retain useful records. Warranty assessment considers the actual defect and any relevant cause; a voluntary exclusion for incorrect support or installation is not a blanket ban on owner installation. Australian Consumer Law rights continue independently.

Related guidance →
Is equipment covered for five years?

There is no blanket five-year equipment promise. Each item carries the applicable manufacturer warranty for the exact model and component supplied. Lamps, batteries, seals and other wearing parts can have different cover from the main unit. The written warranty schedule explains those periods and conditions, and statutory consumer guarantees still apply.

Related guidance →
What records should I keep?

Keep your accepted order, delivery information, supplied installation documents, equipment model and serial numbers, warranty schedules, electrical and inspection certificates, commissioning checks and water-care records. Photographs of the base, pipework and final installation can help if you need support later. A missing maintenance record alone does not automatically void shell cover.

Related guidance →
Can you help with replacement parts after the warranty ends?

Contact us with your equipment model, serial number and the part or fault details. We can help identify the appropriate supplier or replacement option and explain any cost. Availability depends on the product and supplier; the end of voluntary warranty cover does not automatically end any statutory consumer rights.
